Overview of the Faculty

The Faculty of Social Sciences is among the pioneer Faculties of Kotebe Metropolitan University. The Faculty in its current status was officially launched on September 2014, following the historic promotion of  Kotebe College of Teacher Education to Kotebe University College. Currently, the Faculty is organized into three departments, namely Geography and Environmental Studies, History and Heritage Management, and Civics and Ethical Studies. The Faculty runs three undergraduate and three postgraduate programs in regular, weekend and summer. The Faculty is now working hard to diversify its programs and add relevant fields of studies both in Post graduate and undergraduate programs.

With a total of 2423 students (223 Postgraduate, 1112 Undergraduate and 1088 Diploma) and 34 academic staffs (10 Assistant Professors, and 24 MA) , the Faculty  aspires to offer a  broad range of academic programs, research opportunities, and community services.

    Vision

The vision of Social Science Faculty is to be the best faculty that works for sustainable urban development in Addis Ababa City in particular and the country in general by 2025.

    Mission

The mission of Faculty of Social Sciences is to contribute to the sustainable development of Addis Ababa City administration in particular and the country in general by producing competent and responsible citizens at all levels through need based curricula; conducting problem solving research; adapting and transferring technology; and providing demand driven community service.

    Objectives

The objectives of the faculty are

  • To promote and sustain educational quality and equity
  • To produce active, competent and responsible citizen
  • To produce qualified professionals
  • To undertake problem solving research
  • To promote community service based on the need of the community

 Facilities

Laboratory and Library: The Faculty owns one GIS laboratory. The Social Science Library has good collection of reading materials in different fields of studies. We are also planning to organizing electronic materials.
