The Faculty of Languages and Humanities—FLH—of Kotebe Metropolitan University is one of the oldest faculties with a total number of 66 staff 32 of which are PhDs.

The FLH comprises the Department of English Language and Literature, the Department of Ethiopian Languages and Literature (but currently only Amharic Division is admitted), and the Department of Arts and Music.

Envisaging to reach the needs of the metropolis as well as the nation in general, the FLH is at the verge of launching two additional departments: the Department of Afan Oromo and Literature and the Department of Multiculturalism and Multilingualism where both Departments’ curricula have been approved at the faculty level and sent to the office of Academic Affairs Vice President for validation.

The FLH always strives to realize academic excellence in language, literature, communication, media, and culture research among many others. FLH is commissioned to train, teach, and equip students with disciplines that the city administration identified as focus areas. It also envisages to produce competent and qualified citizens that have the required confidence and academic excellence to work at the metropolitan setting and beyond.

Furthermore, FLH endeavors to ensure the vision of KMU that it sets to become one of the model metropolitan universities in Africa in solving problems in metropolitan setting and to be known worldwide.
